The thyroid gland sits on the lower portion of the anterior of your neck. Your thyroid lies slightly below your Adam’s apple, in front of the windpipe. The thyroid gland is made up of two side lobes. These lobes are connected by a bridge called the isthmus in the middle. The thyroid secretes many hormones, we call thyroid hormones. The main thyroid hormone is called thyroxine, we call this T4. Thyroid hormones influence metabolism function, regulate body temperature, as well as growth and development. During early childhood, the proper amount of thyroid hormone is crucial for brain development. The thyroid gland controls basically all of the metabolic processes in your body.
Thyroid disorders can range from harmless issues that need no treatment to life-threatening cancer. One of the most common thyroid problems involves unexpected production of thyroid hormones, either too much or too little. If a patient has an increase of thyroid hormones it is called hyperthyroidism. Although the symptoms can be troublesome or annoying, most thyroid problems can be managed correctly if properly diagnosed and treated. Dr. Tieche treats Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's by looking at in depth Thyroid panels that include but are not limited to FT4, FT3, T3, TPO, TSH. He believes in treating you based on symptoms and lab levels, even if you may be in the range, you may need to be optimized in the range. Remembering that not every patient feels good at the same number, this can be life changing for many people. Once Dr. Tieche and his team go over your blood work, we will be able to give you a treatment plan to help you manage your thyroid balance. This will ensure that you are put on the correct medication so you can be on your way to a better you!
