Medical marijuana can be helpful for so many reasons! Dr. Tieche and his team want to offer safe ways to help patients cope with everyday life.

Medical Marijuana is a plant based drug. It contains THC, CBD, and CBN. THC is the psychoactive compound in marijuana. The THC in marijuana is responsible for the euphoric sensation or “high” that people get when it is ingested. It has been FDA-approved to prevent nausea and vomiting in people receiving chemotherapy. CBD is another derivative in marijuana but is not hallucinatory. CBD is the part of the drug that has been responsible for the medical benefits.

Medical majijuana health benefits include but are not limited to the decrease of pain and muscle spasms, nausea, as well as the eating disorder anorexia. Benefits include improved immunity, better emotional regulation, better mood, vascular health, neuroplasticity and digestive system function. Some studies of the endocannabinoid system have shown that the benefits include neuroprotection in MS patients and patients with epilepsy, and a decrease in the number of mood and anxiety disorders.

There are many ways to take medical marijuana.  One of  the most common methods of using cannabis is to smoke it. It can also be baked into foods, infused in a drink, or taken as a pill. When medical marijuana is prepared in a food or drink, it is referred to as an “edible.” One of the least common methods of using medical marijuana is as a topical patch, salve, or ointment. Topical cannabis can also have major advantages over other methods of use. By applying it topically it goes directly into the bloodstream, making it more efficient.
