What Can Botox and Dysport Treat?

Neuromodulators may be used to soften the appearance of:

• Forehead lines
• Frown lines between the eyebrows, often called the “11s”
• Crow’s feet around the eyes
• Bunny lines across the nose
• Chin dimpling
• Downturned corners of the mouth
• Fine lines around the lips
• Vertical neck bands
• A gummy smile
• An upper-lip flip

They may also be used for selected medical or functional concerns, including excessive sweating, depending on the patient and treatment area.

Some uses are FDA-approved, while others are considered off-label but may be performed when an experienced medical provider determines they are appropriate.

How Do Neuromodulators Work?

Repeated facial expressions—such as squinting, frowning and raising the eyebrows—cause the underlying muscles to contract. Over time, those movements can create visible lines in the skin.

Botox and Dysport temporarily reduce the nerve signals that cause selected muscles to contract. As the muscles relax, the overlying skin appears smoother and existing expression lines may become less noticeable.

These products do not add volume to the face. Concerns related to volume loss, facial folds or contour may be better treated with dermal filler, Sculptra or another aesthetic option.

Botox or Dysport: Which Is Better?

Both products contain forms of botulinum toxin type A and are used to temporarily soften muscle activity, but their formulations and dosing units are different. The units are not interchangeable, and needing more Dysport units does not mean it is weaker or less effective.

Some patients prefer one product based on:

• How quickly they notice results
• How the product settles in a particular treatment area
• Their previous experience
• Their provider’s recommendation
• Available rewards or promotions

Neither product automatically produces a more natural result. Natural-looking outcomes depend heavily on proper placement, dosing and the injector’s understanding of facial anatomy.

Your Recharge provider will recommend Botox, Dysport or a combination based on your facial movement, treatment goals and previous results.

When Will I See Results?

Most patients begin noticing gradual improvement within several days, with fuller results developing over the following one to two weeks.

Results commonly last approximately three to four months, although duration varies based on the treatment area, dose, muscle strength, metabolism and individual response.

Consistent treatment may help prevent expression lines from becoming deeper, but maintenance appointments are needed to preserve results.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your provider will evaluate your facial expressions, muscle movement and areas of concern before creating a personalized treatment plan.

The injections take only a few minutes and involve a very small needle. Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising or headache may occur. Most patients return to their normal routine shortly after treatment.

We will also review aftercare instructions and tell you when to return for a follow-up.

Will I Look Frozen?

Not when treatment is thoughtfully planned, unless that is what you are looking for.
