Taking Clomid can lead to an increase in testosterone and sperm count in some men. Dr. Tieche uses this in some cases for men with Low T when Testosterone is not desired.

Clomid is a popular brand name and nickname for generic Clomiphene Citrate. Clomid blocks the hormone estrogen from interacting with the pituitary gland. You may have heard of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) to treat low testosterone, which usually works well but can come with side effects that may be undesirable to certain people, which is why some people opt for alternative treatment options, including the prescription medication Clomid.

What is Clomid and how does it work?

Clomid (also known as clomiphene), a drug originally developed to treat infertility in women, is now one of the most common options for Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). While your testicles are the "factories" that make testosterone, it’s your brain, specifically the Pituitary Gland, that’s in charge of managing those factories. When the Pituitary Gland senses that your body has enough testosterone, it shuts down the production in the testes. Sometimes, its sensors are a little off and it turns off production even when testosterone levels are low. That’s where Clomid comes in!

When you take this drug, it tells your Pituitary Gland to pass the message to your testicles to increase the production of testosterone. Clomid basically tricks your brain into thinking there’s too little testosterone in your system and as a result, your body ramps up its natural production of testosterone. When estrogen interacts with the pituitary gland, less luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) are produced. This leads to a decrease in testosterone and therefore a decrease in sperm production. Since Clomid also blocks estrogen interaction with the Pituitary Gland, there’s an increase in LH, FSH, and testosterone in the body it may improve sperm production.

How can I start taking Clomid?

If you suspect your testosterone levels or sperm count is low, Dr. Tieche will order blood tests to determine whether you are a candidate for treatment with Clomid. Usually, the tests will include measurements of FSH, LH and testosterone levels. Clomid is an inexpensive option to help improve testosterone levels and sperm counts with few side effects. Under the supervision of Dr. Tieche and his team of providers, Clomid can be used as a safe and effective alternative for those who don't want to take testosterone or in addition to your current TRT regimen for a greater increase in production of testosterone in the body.
