By Cynthia Tieche, CEO and Co-Founder of Recharge Clinic
I am not a doctor, but thyroid care and treatment is such a significant way that Recharge Clinic positively impacts people's lives so I wanted to write this blog to share some of the information about thyroid that people do not understand.
We hear this all the time.
“I am exhausted all the time.”
“I cannot lose weight no matter what I do.”
“My hair is thinning.”
“I feel puffy.”
“My mood is all over the place.”
“I am freezing when everyone else is fine.”
“My labs are normal, but I do not feel normal.”
And then the patient usually says something that is sad:
“Maybe I am just burned out.”
Burnout and stress are real. Life is heavy. Most people are carrying way more than they admit. But not every symptom should be blamed on stress, aging, parenting, working too much, or “just being busy.”
Sometimes fatigue is not just burnout, weight gain is not just lack of willpower, and brain fog is not just getting older.
Low motivation, mood changes, hair loss, constipation, poor sleep, cold intolerance, and that “I just do not feel like myself” feeling may be connected to your thyroid, hormones, vitamin deficiencies, iron levels, inflammation, cortisol/stress, insulin/metabolism, or other issues that deserve to be looked at.
You should not be told everything is fine when you know your body does not feel fine.
That is exactly why we built Recharge Clinic this way.
Recharge is not just a med spa. We are a full-service medical clinic. We offer same-day appointments, telehealth appointments, in-house labs, hormone evaluations, primary care, quick care, weight loss support, and functional medicine-style care because patients deserve more than a five-minute appointment and a “your labs are normal” dismissal.
We listen. We explain. We help patients get answers.
And one of the biggest areas where patients feel dismissed is thyroid care.
Your thyroid is small, but it is powerful.
It affects energy, metabolism, mood, sleep, weight, body temperature, hair, skin, digestion, heart rate, and overall well-being. When thyroid function is off, patients may feel like their whole body has slowed down.
Common hypothyroid symptoms can be:
Fatigue
Weight gain or weight loss resistance
Brain fog
Low mood or mood swings
Feeling cold
Hair thinning or hair loss
Dry skin
Constipation
Puffiness
Poor sleep
Low motivation
Muscle aches
Heavy periods or cycle changes
Slower heart rate
Feeling like you are dragging through the day
Now, can stress cause some of these symptoms too? Absolutely.
Can hormone changes cause them? Yes.
Can low iron, low ferritin, low vitamin D, low B12, poor sleep, insulin resistance, inflammation, or perimenopause cause similar symptoms? Yes, yes, yes.
That is why the answer should not be, “It is probably just stress.”
The better question is: “How do you feel?” This the most important question we ask.
This is one of the most common things we hear from patients searching for a thyroid doctor in Ocala, Clermont, Lady Lake, or for thyroid testing.
They have already been somewhere else.
They were told their labs were “normal.”
But they still feel exhausted, foggy, cold, puffy, moody, constipated, unable to lose weight, or just not like themselves.
Here is where thyroid care gets tricky.
A patient can technically be “in range” and still not feel optimized. Lab ranges can be wide. One person may feel fine at the low end of a range, while another person feels absolutely terrible there and needs to be bumped up a little bit (while still staying in range).
This does not mean every person needs thyroid medication. That would be reckless, and that is not how we practice.
But it does mean symptoms and labs matter, but the patient matters too.
At Recharge Clinic, we do not treat people like a number on a page. We look at the whole picture. We ask questions. We review symptoms. We look at history. We consider hormones, metabolism, vitamin levels, iron, stress, sleep, inflammation, weight changes, medications, and what is actually happening in your life and your body.
Because “normal” does not always mean optimal.
Many providers only check TSH.
TSH can be very helpful. It is usually the first thyroid lab many providers order, and it gives important information. But thyroid care is not always as simple as one number.
Recharge will look at a more complete picture, which can include:
TSH
Free T4
Free T3
Thyroid antibodies
Symptoms
Hormone status
Vitamin D
B12
Iron and ferritin
Inflammation markers
Stress and sleep history
Weight history
Metabolic health
Overall health
This does not mean every patient needs every lab every time. It means your care should be individualized.
Thyroid care is not always simple. It requires experience, proper lab interpretation, listening to symptoms, careful dosing, and consistent follow-up.
Many providers do not understand thyroid optimization deeply. Some are uncomfortable with it because they were not trained well in it. Some are afraid to treat thyroid because they do not understand the full picture, the risks, the symptoms, the dosing, or how to monitor patients properly.
So they check TSH, say “you are fine,” and move on. If you are lucky, they may check some other thyroid labs, and still say you are “fine” because they don’t know what to do with them!
Patients deserve better than that.
Your thyroid is not living in its own little world.
It is connected to so many other systems in the body.
But thyroid is also connected to cortisol and stress, insulin and blood sugar, iron and ferritin, vitamin D, B12, inflammation, gut health, sleep, and overall hormone balance.
This is why a patient may think they have a thyroid problem, but the real issue is low ferritin, low vitamin D, poor sleep, perimenopause, insulin resistance, chronic stress, or a combination of several things.
Or a patient may have thyroid dysfunction, but also have hormone imbalance, low iron, low B12, or inflammation making everything worse.
This is why cookie-cutter care does not work.
You cannot fix a whole-body problem with a one-size-fits-all answer.
Does this seem overwhelming?! Yes, because it is a lot. But… at Recharge, THIS is what we do. And we do it well.
Let’s talk about weight because this is a big one.
Many patients come to Recharge because they are eating better, moving more, trying hard, and still not losing weight. And they are frustrated. Some have been told, “Just eat less and exercise more. Here, take some GLP’s”
That advice is not only unhelpful, it can be insulting when someone is already trying everything they know to do.
Thyroid and weight loss are connected because thyroid hormones help regulate metabolism. But thyroid is only one piece of the puzzle.
If you are struggling with weight loss resistance, we may also need to look at insulin, cortisol/stress, sex hormones, sleep, inflammation, vitamin deficiencies, medications, nutrition, muscle mass, and your full health history.
At Recharge, we do not assume weight struggles are laziness.
We do not shame patients.
We help patients get answers and build a plan that makes sense.
Thyroid care is powerful. When done correctly, it can be life-changing. When done carelessly or blindly, it can cause problems.
Thyroid treatment can affect the heart, metabolism, anxiety, sleep, bone health, and other systems. Too much thyroid medication can cause symptoms like heart palpitations, anxiety, shakiness, sleep issues, and other concerns. Too little support may leave a patient still feeling exhausted and unwell.
That is why patients should not try to diagnose or treat thyroid issues themselves through online lab kits, internet protocols, social media advice, or thyroid medications and supplements purchased online.
Please do not let TikTok, a random podcast, or a supplement company become your thyroid provider.
Thyroid testing and thyroid hormone optimization should be reviewed with a licensed medical provider who understands how to order the right labs, interpret them properly, listen to symptoms, monitor progress, and adjust safely.
This is not a guessing game. It needs medical supervision from someone who has experience.
You may want to ask about thyroid labs if you are dealing with:
Ongoing fatigue
Brain fog
Feeling cold often
Unexplained weight gain
Trouble losing weight
Hair thinning or hair loss
Constipation
Dry skin
Puffiness
Low mood
Anxiety or irritability
Poor sleep
Low motivation
Hormone changes
Irregular or heavy periods
A family history of thyroid disease
Previous “normal thyroid labs” but still tired
We offer in-house labs, same-day appointments when available, and telehealth appointments for many types of follow-up care.
Here is what I want patients to understand.
Feeling exhausted all the time is not something you should have to just accept.
Feeling foggy, puffy, cold, moody, and stuck in your body is not something you should have to ignore.
Being told “your labs are normal” should not be the end of the conversation when you still feel terrible.
At Recharge Clinic, we are not here to throw medication at everyone. We are here to listen, evaluate, educate, and help patients understand what may be going on.
But you deserve someone willing to look.
You deserve someone willing to ask, “How do you feel?” and actually care about the answer.
That is Recharge Clinic thyroid care.
If you have been told your thyroid labs are normal but still feel tired, foggy, cold, moody, puffy, or unable to lose weight, it may be time for a more complete conversation.
Schedule a free consultation at Recharge Clinic or call us at 352-512-9996 and ask about thyroid labs, hormone evaluation, vitamin levels, iron/ferritin, and whole-body care.

And we would love to help you feel heard, cared for, and confident again.
Our next blog explores a question we hear every day: "Why do I still feel terrible?" If you've been told your thyroid labs are normal but you're still struggling with fatigue, brain fog, weight changes, or other symptoms, you won't want to miss Still Feeling Terrible on Thyroid Medication? Here's What Most Patients Are Never Told.
Yes, some patients are told their thyroid labs are “normal,” but they still feel exhausted, foggy, cold, puffy, or unable to lose weight. This does not automatically mean thyroid medication is needed, but it does mean a deeper evaluation may be appropriate. Recharge Clinic looks at labs, symptoms, health history, hormones, vitamin levels, iron/ferritin, stress, sleep, and metabolism when clinically appropriate.
Depending on the patient, Recharge may evaluate a more complete thyroid picture, which can include TSH, Free T4, Free T3, thyroid antibodies, and other related labs but not limited to vitamin D, B12, iron/ferritin, inflammation markers, hormone levels, and metabolic markers. Your provider will decide what testing makes sense based on your symptoms and health history.
Recharge Clinic offers thyroid testing and thyroid-related care at our medical clinic locations in Ocala, Lady Lake, and Clermont. Patients searching for a thyroid doctor in Ocala, thyroid clinic Ocala, thyroid clinic Clermont, thyroid clinic Lady Lake, or thyroid testing near me can schedule a consultation to discuss symptoms and lab options.
Thyroid and metabolism are connected, so thyroid dysfunction can contribute to weight gain or weight loss resistance. However, thyroid is not the only factor. Hormones, insulin resistance, stress, sleep, inflammation, medications, nutrition, muscle mass, vitamin deficiencies, and iron levels can also play a role. That is why Recharge looks at the bigger picture instead of blaming patients or giving one-size-fits-all advice.
No. Thyroid medication is not right for everyone, and it should never be started casually or without proper medical supervision. Fatigue, brain fog, and weight gain can come from many causes. Thyroid treatment should be individualized, carefully monitored, and managed by an experienced licensed provider.
Please do not try to diagnose or treat thyroid issues yourself with online protocols, social media advice, thyroid supplements, or medications purchased online. Thyroid treatment can affect your heart, anxiety, sleep, metabolism, bone health, and overall health. Thyroid care should be guided by proper labs, symptoms, medical history, and follow-up with a licensed medical provider.
This blog is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. Thyroid testing, thyroid medication, hormone therapy, supplements, and treatment decisions should always be reviewed with a licensed medical provider who can evaluate your symptoms, labs, health history, medications, and individual risks.
