By Dr. Steve Tieche, Co-Founder of Recharge Clinic
We’re getting more and more requests for PRF biofiller at Recharge Clinic, and I can see why. The idea of using your own blood to create a treatment that can soften hollows and help rejuvenate your skin is exciting. If you’ve been curious about filler but would prefer something made from your own body, this is a conversation worth having.
I recently made a video about it because I wanted to explain what we’re doing and why patients are interested. There’s quite a bit more to this treatment than the name suggests.
You may already know names like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®. Those are hyaluronic-acid fillers, and they can give beautiful results. PRF biofiller gives us another option, particularly if you want a softer change or have questions about puffiness or unevenness after previous filler.
PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. We start with a small draw of your blood, then process it to prepare the biofiller. The finished material has a gel-like consistency that allows us to place it in areas where you’ve lost volume.
What I like about that is how personal the treatment is: we’re working with material from your own body. We can use it in several of the same areas where we use conventional filler, depending on what you’d like to improve.
If using your own blood sounds surprising, think about the role it already plays in healing. We’re taking components of that blood and preparing them for a very specific purpose.
When you look in the mirror, you may notice more than a hollow. The skin over it may look thinner or less smooth than it used to. That’s one reason I’m interested in a treatment that may help with both volume and skin quality.
Your platelets contain growth factors—signals involved in healing and tissue repair. PRF holds these within a fibrin network and releases them over time. That is the basis for its potential to support collagen and improve the quality of aging skin.
For you, the goal is a softer hollow and skin that looks healthier over time. Those are two different changes, and they don’t necessarily happen at the same pace.
You may see some fullness initially, while changes in skin quality take longer to develop. I want you to know that before treatment so you’re looking for gradual progress rather than judging everything the next morning.
We’re still learning how much improvement these treatments can deliver and how long it lasts. At your visit, we’ll talk about what I think is realistic for your skin and whether a series of treatments makes sense.
If you’re interested in looking more rested without making a dramatic change to your face, you’re exactly the kind of person I want to have this discussion with. A small improvement in the right area can be much closer to what you want than adding volume everywhere.
And if you’ve had filler before and didn’t love how it looked or felt, tell me about it. Was it too much fullness? Puffiness under your eyes? An area you could feel when you touched your face? Those details help me understand what you’re hoping to do differently this time.
One of the things I like about PRF biofiller is the soft way it can settle into the tissue. In my experience, that makes it a nice option when we’re looking for a smooth, natural-looking improvement.
Cost matters, too. Biofiller may be a more affordable option for your goals, especially when we’re discussing several areas. We’ll go over the expected number of visits and the full cost so you can decide what works for you.
Your visit starts with a conversation about your goals, your health, and any previous treatments. Then we’ll explain the blood draw, the injections, and what to expect afterward so you know what’s happening at each step.
You can have temporary swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness after treatment. Unevenness is possible, too. Using your own blood doesn’t eliminate injection risks, and we’ll discuss those with you before we begin.
If you have an event coming up, let us know when you schedule. I’d much rather help you plan enough time for things to settle than have you worrying about a bruise just before a big occasion.
You don’t need to arrive knowing which treatment to choose. Show me the area that bothers you and tell me what you’d like to see change. We’ll talk through whether biofiller, traditional filler, or another treatment is likely to get you there.
I’m excited to have this option at Recharge because it gives us another way to help you feel good about your appearance. For someone who has been hesitant about conventional filler, it can open up a conversation they weren’t ready to have before.
If a treatment made from your own blood appeals to you, I’d encourage you to come in and learn more. We can look at your skin together and make a plan that feels right for you.
No. Products such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are manufactured fillers. With PRF biofiller, we start with your own blood and prepare the material for your treatment.
You may notice some initial fullness, but early swelling can affect what you see. We’ll explain when to assess the result; changes in skin quality develop more gradually.
Using your own blood is one of its appeals, but injections still have risks. We’ll review your medical history and explain the possible side effects before you decide.
That depends on the area you want treated and how much change you’re hoping for. We’ll discuss whether one visit or a series makes sense for you, along with possible maintenance.
Not everyone. Bring your medication list and tell us about any health conditions or previous filler. We’ll review those together and let you know whether this is a good fit.
Curious about what PRF biofiller could do for you? Schedule an aesthetic consultation at Recharge Clinic. Bring your questions, tell us what you’d like to improve, and let’s talk about your options.
