During a treatment, our MeDioStar diode laser emits light energy onto the desired treatment area. The light safely penetrates through the skin and targets the melanin at the root of the hair follicle. The energy from the light is absorbed and converted to heat. The heat damages the cells that generate hair growth within and around the hair, ensuring successful hair reduction in the treated area. While the laser causes sufficient damage to the hair follicle, no surrounding skin tissue is harmed.
It is also important to note that hair removal is only effective when hair follicles are in their active growing phase. Hair has three stages of growth and each hair is usually in a different phase of growth. The three different stages of hair growth are the anagen phase, catagen phase, and telogen phase.
The anagen phase is the active growing phase. During this stage of hair growth, the root of the hair follicle is still attached to the skin’s dermis and blood supply and receives nutrients to grow. The catagen phase is known as the transition phase and is when a hair follicle detaches from its nutrient supply and begins to die. The telogen phase, referred to as the resting phase, is when the resting hair remains in the follicle until it is pushed out or shed by the growth of a new anagen hair.
In order to destroy a hair follicle, the root where the blood supplies the hair needs to be destroyed, along with the stem cells that produce hair regeneration. This is why a series of multiple treatments are needed; to target each individual hair during its anagen phase.
While the number of sessions needed varies case by case, most patients need six to ten treatments to achieve lasting hair reduction.
Who is a candidate for laser hair removal?
Anyone with unwanted hair can receive laser hair removal treatment at Recharge Clinic. Our advanced Astanza MeDioStar diode laser uses unique wavelengths to safely treat all skin types, even recently tanned skin.
Can all hair be treated?
Since the laser beam targets the melanin in hair, all pigmented hair will react well to treatment. That being said, very dark hair to dark blond can be treated effectively whereas white or grey hair will be less responsive to treatment. The darker the hair, the higher the absorption rate and better the results. Lighter skin types (I-III) and darker hair types will experience faster, more effective results due to the contrast of melanin between their skin and hair.
Which body areas can be treated?
Recharge Clinic can perform laser hair removal on all areas of the body. The most popular treatment areas are the legs, back, underarms, arms, chest, upper lip, and bikini area.
How many treatments will I need?
For lasting hair reduction, patients typically need a minimum of six to ten treatments spaced four to eight weeks apart. The time between treatments is necessary to treat each hair follicle during its active growing stage (the anagen phase), when definite hair growth is noticeable.
Do I need to shave before my treatment?
Yes, patients will be asked to shave their hair in order to avoid the absorption of light by the hair visibly outside of the skin.
Is the laser safe?
Yes! Laser hair removal is a noninvasive procedure that uses laser light to safely penetrate through the skin and target the melanin in the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin tissue. Our MeDioStar laser is FDA-approved and Recharge Clinic customizes protocols based each patient’s skin and hair type to ensure optimal treatment.
Does the laser hurt?
Our MeDioStar laser provides painless hair removal treatment thanks to its integrated cooling technology and SmoothPulse mode.
Are there any side effects? How about downtime?
Laser hair removal is an extremely safe procedure with limited side effects. The most common side effects patients may experience are temporary redness, itchiness, and swelling of the skin. These side effects diminish within a few hours after a session. There is no downtime required post-treatment.

Treats:
A carbon paste, is applied to clean skin in a very thin layer and sits on the skin for approximately 10 to 20 minutes. As the carbon dries, it is attaching to dirt, oil or dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. The carbon is now ready for the next step.
The carbon attracts the light energy from the laser, and absorbs it. The reaction to this energy causes a mini explosion. This energy explosion will push the energy, which will be in the form of heat, deep into the layers of the skin where elastin and collagen are activated and cells will begin producing anew.
Now, as for the surface of the skin, as the explosion occurs the carbon is vaporized along with any dirt, oil or dead skin cells. This may sound invasive and scary with all the explosions and vaporizing, but no need to worry. There is very little discomfort or pain. The sensation of the laser facial has been described as a mild tingling.
